Before the Show with Tinarawen
The sound of the nomadic Tuareg people of Mali is still echoing through the city as I write this. Theirs is a music that comes from time, that comes from a sense of knowing and a sense of longing. Tinariwen, a Grammy-award-winning band that hails from the desert, played a concert in Kuala Lumpur on November 13, 2017. They are currently on a 40-day around-the-world tour to share their passion for their guitars and drums. There is a richness in their quietness backstage where they are relaxed and easy-going. They are here to tell their story through their music. Here are a few shots from before the show, when I fell in love with a guitar (and felt like a groupie!) In the second video here, I recorded Hassan Ag Touhami, “The Lion”, in his own world, with a song in his heart. A gentleman in a lovely moment. I later learned that he can really dance and is someone you want at your party! But that’s for the next post.
