Saints, warriors and wise advice are at the heart of the Malaysian story of the “Datuk”. Want to know more about this lovely deity who protects us and advises us in our daily lives? Then, come join us for a walk at GTF 2017, Aug 20 and Aug 27.I will be leading 2 Walk&Talks in Georgetown. We will explore the neighbourhood around my exhibit, “Of This Place”, which is hung in front of the Cantonese Association on Lbh Chulia. We will talk about the origins of “Datuk” worship and have a look at some shrines in honour of this uniquely Malaysian deity. Please bring your ideas and your questions and join the conversation. The walks will be held on Sunday, Aug 20th and again on Sunday Aug 27th, starting at 9:30am from the Cantonese Association. All are welcome. If you would like to join, please email me at cheryljhoffmann@gmail.com

Rarely without my camera, I am inspired by energy in a crowd, the peacefulness of light, and the intensity of spirit. Based in Malaysia, I photograph rituals and traditions, ceremonies and celebrations, beliefs and ideas.
